Things to be grateful for:

Saturday: Green tea with a splash of orange juice. Smooth Heaven, I call it.

Sunday: William Gibson's Bridge Trilogy suddenly sneaking its way into my peripheral vision at a second-hand books store. No need to explain the wonderful hours I've spent basking in his ability to bullseye words and metaphors, now do I? Miss Molly Millionaire fiercely, but I'm making do.

Monday: I had this really crazy crossover idea while in the shower, as one does. It involves (wait for it...) Merlin and (wait some more...) Inception. Uther would be the Cobb-like character, naturally. Arthur would be the point man and general badass of surprising depths of competence (and emotion, him being him and all). Gwen would be the architect because she would so love the whole creation part, and she'd also be the heart of the team while remaining quietly badass in her own adorable mixture of fumbly unflappability (say that three times fast). Morgana would be the forger, and when Uther went to get her from wherever it is she took off to, he'd have to use Arthur's name because she's loyal to her (maybe) half-brother in a way she could never be to her (maybe not) father, because this particular relationship is seriously complicated and she'd rather do without. But Arthur is her bro and she'll fight the ocean if it seems to be encroaching on him ::has her very own cannon::. And Merlin, as Gaius' apprentice, would be the chemist who would also double as the wildcard (otherwise known as the tourist) who gets things done when all the others got their hands full, and as such is essential for the team's completeness.

I don't think I'll be writing this one, though. Or if I do, it won't be any time soon. Idek. Merlin's eating my brain. I also cooked up this one scenario where Greek mythology met Dune and converged on Merlin... I would get me a new distraction but season 3 is fast approaching and so it would be an exercise in futility. Oh, well.

Tuesday: This one, yes. This morning I woke up to find in my inbox the visual of Kat's fist knocking a certain asshole's lights out, which made my day very early. I suspect this will continue to provide glee for a long while, as these things go. Thank you Kat, ILU SO MUCH!

As well as I love very muchly the rest of the perfectly fantastic ladies who've made me disregard my 'oh shit!' moment upon realizing I'd forgotten to block the comments on that last post as I intended to. Screw that, y'all rock and make me smile so hard. Come now, group hug ::hugs you all::

Today I am grateful because I picked up my notebook and WROTE SOMETHING. Of the fannish variety, that is. And I like it.

Not sure it'll go anywhere, but since I've been spending unholy amounts of time not paying attention in class thinking up ways to crossover the Codex Alera with Merlin, I thought it would be interesting to see if it took any kind of shape if I sat down and played with it for a bit. It did?

I think. Maybe.

Though its actually some sort of patchwork thing made with elements from the Kencyrath universe, Aleran furies and my own Arthurian preferences... good luck, ye who enter here.

Whatever, I'm happy with it. Thoroughly unbeta'd as I just finished it and HAD TO TELL SOMEBODY.

OMG I WROTE SOMETHING! Thanks for inspiration, man. Really.

tea_and_ink: (our last day as children)
which I seem to have mentally renamed project gratefulness. I keep doing things like this.

So, this morning I woke up to the sudden urge to explore Merlin related content in Tumblr. I came across this, which happened when I was away from the internetz and thus unable to squee all dolphin-like in a timely fashion. But it's better late than never, plus I never do things in a timely fashion anyway, so.

Also, there's a prev for Series 3. I may or may not have imploded a little bit.

Go whimsical urges, then!

I'm missing Gwen severely, you guys. Severely.

My friend, who does not like that "that sifi-fantasy CGI mental handjob business" has just uttered this one:

R: in the immortal words of one Jimmy T. Kirk: bullshit.
Me: *_* heeeeeeee!!! I've totally roped you in. I've totally roped you in. I've totally roped you in.
R: Crap. So this is what being corrupted feels like. Well, at least Mr Kirk is a hotass.

Also, this post is for my girl [livejournal.com profile] maboheme  whom I promised some reccing of the type I've been neglecting. Hence:

Were you looking for a magical kingdom inside that wardrobe by Netgirl_y2k over at AOOO  Merlin/Morgana, Arthur/Gwen. In which there is absolutely no ravishing. Of anybody, at all. No matter what Arthur says. Kind of relentlessly hilarious with a touch of awesome and some seriously fantastic dynamics.

Through the dark by [livejournal.com profile] kepp0xy  . Wherein Morgana hones her magic and Merlin lends a helping hand (I may have a thing for this particular idea, I think you'll notice). Incidentally, this author has a wonderful array of fics I think should be checked out since they span all tastes and possibilities.

Drastically Redefining Protocol
by [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock . I think the chances you haven't read this one are slim, however in case you haven't here, have some. Arthur is Crown Prince of England, Merlin works at a hospital and Uther passes out in ottomans. Also Gwen and Morgana are kind of stellar. Satisfying long fic, this one. Arthur/Merlin of the boy-on-boy variety.

Peppermint Wind by [livejournal.com profile] miakun . Another Merlin/Morgana one, this one being several times more awesome on account of it taking place in the present and over exotic fruit. Not an AU, btw.

Behind Closed Doors by [livejournal.com profile] miakun . Insanely hot A/G/Mer piece where they're private investigators and also a totally hot threesome as often as possible. Like, really. So very NC-17.

What Happened When The World Fell Apart
by iambic. This one is a really good read, takes place in a steampunkish universe and it's structured in such a way that the story is told both as if read from the official history book and the POV of the characters involved. It doesn't seem to make much sense at first, but then you get into it (if you do get into it) and it pays off beautifully. One of the first fics I read in this fandom.

Ever Mine
by [livejournal.com profile] blackmamba . She has a number of beautiful fics, I think I could simply rec you everything she's written in this fandom, actually. This particular one  has an ethereal quality to it you can almost touch (figure that one out! hehe), from all the characters' POV as they experience a series of supernatural moments that closely relate, one way or another, to Morgana and her ability. Lovely way to look at relationships dynamics.

An Ever-fixed Mark by [livejournal.com profile] imperfectcircle . I think this is my most favoritest one so far. They're a seduretu and if you don't know what that is, there's a brief explanation in the fic, if you do know what that is, then what the hell are you doing still here? you should be over there getting drunk on plot and love and pitch perfect voices. If there is one fic on this list you want to read and ditch the others, this is the one. Trust me.

in omne tempus by [livejournal.com profile] giddygeek . Of power and what it means to be a woman in this male dominated world of Morgana. Tremendously sensual Morgana/Gwen.

A Cautionary Tale About Tomatoes (and zombies) by Netgirl_y2k. Wildly hilarious, I mean there are zombies in it, but that's not even the part where it gets ridiculously funny.

A Little Knowledge by [livejournal.com profile] bluflamingo . Morgana and her sheer fierceness save the day.

Don't Be Sorry by [livejournal.com profile] sparky77 . Another one where everybody loves everybody and Arthur used to climb into Morgana's bed at the age of five because some things are always right in the world.

Aaaaaand Five Lessons by Selena. Because I couldn't NOT include this one. Five lessons Arthur's learned that shape the sort of man he is. It's a beautiful character study piece.

Um, yeah, since you don't know the sacrifices I've had to make, I'll just point you to my delicious tag on these four so that you can go there, if you're still interested.
tea_and_ink: (y canto canciones de amor y furia)
I think I'm having an identity crisis of some sort. Like, I'm sitting here and I realized I don't even know when Spn's coming back, which might be mostly because I'm agonizing over the lack of new Merlin...

When did I change boats? I was not notified of this in a timely fashion. Not cool, self.

But. Merlin fic, I am gorging myself on it. And I'm loving how prevalently awesome Morgana is portrayed and how Future HQIC Gwen is written and this makes me SO HAPPY because, like, yes they are.

On second thought, maybe them burning Anna up in that episode where Mary and John totally stole the show did it for me, like, I find myself not really caring one way or another, just watching out of habit, and now I wonder if I'll still be around for the next season they've been promising. I think I'll stick around to see what's new and what remains.

MERLIN COME BACK TO MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

::goes off to hunt appropriate icon::

eureka!

Ha! I've figured stuff out. Because I'm awesome, obvs, but also because I'm bored and have a lot of free time since my early classes have been interrupted because the huge classroom is simply wasted in the accommodation of  THREE crazy cats... didn't I predict the enormous success this initiative was going to have?

Um, yeah, onto the stuff that's been figured out. Remember the whole "four horsemen that were to bring about the end of my time" tag?, well, it's been changed, not because I stopped thinking Merlin might be the death of me (oh, but what a way to go), but because I think a renaming of that tag might be more appropriate, and so "the stuff of legends" came to be, I do not need to explain that meaning, and so I won't.

And it'll go something like this: Once upon a time, there was a girl who used to have a life, she would go out and would not tell her brother to "sod off", until she met this charming little warlock, whom befriended these other three outstanding characters and then, she couldn't help but fall for even the awful king who ruled his country with an iron fist, because he too had his amount of charm. The end.

See? Epic, right there.

Dropping by to inform you that:

a) I've spent the entire weekend reading Arthur/Gwen fics because I loves them and tend to be a bit obsessive when it comes to stuff I love. Also they're lovely and there is some seriously good fic out there wherein Morgana is not taken away because Merlin never tried to kill her because she knew she was magic for a long while and she also knew he was magic as well andthenmostofthecrappypartsofseries2DIDNOTOCCURASSUCH. Awesomecakes.

b) I'm no longer in a committed relationship with my cat because my apartment building's policies changed and since I don't have a balcony I don't get to have a pet. Many tears were shed, many bad words were uttered and many brick walls were hit by my forehead. End result? I had to give Einstein away and it broke my effing soul. Like, I kept crying at random moments between A/G fics. It's awful.

c) My friend has become a thirteen year old boy obsessed with becoming a rocks star or something because out of thin air, she's decided that owning an amplifier will make her life. I do not get this reasoning but she came bearing ice cream and Orlando Bloom movies to ease my pain and so, I care not for the general lack of sense-making of her need for an amplifier.

d) School sort of starts today. At 18.00 hrs. Because Monday night is the bestest time to kick start a new semester, school. Keep up the utterly counterintuitive work.

e) Wow, I'm bitter today. Which is why I'm gonna go drink my sorrows away watch some more A/G vids on YT, I need the cute/lovely/awesome they bring.

f) I'm also considering changing this icon here for an A/G one (my theme, guys, sense it!) but then, it's Alec/Max!!!! this is hard.

Um, yeah. About that.

my conflicted emotions under the cut )

Anyway. Fair warning be given that I may come back and edit this post after a cool-headed re-watching of the episode. No telling when that'll be. Also, I'm tagging this show the four horsemen because, honestly, these four will be the end of me. And next week I better get a serious dose of Gwen, I missed her so hard here!

And I'm still studying, despite all the evidence to the contrary ::shifty eyes::
