On Merlin 2xsomething

Um, yeah. About that.
Morgana is being used, being manipulated and that makes her turning evil kind of a moot point because it wasn't something inherently hers, she's mad at Uther, yes, but only because she's so isolated, so fuck you Merlin for not having the balls to tell her about your magic, FUCK. YOU. It annoys the holy hell out of me because he listens to a Dragon whom he knows jack about, he listens to Gaius whom did nothing to prevent Uther's stupid banning of magic when he had the chance, he listens to everyone and their mothers, but not himself, unless he's telling himself to do something really stupid. Then he's all for it. And I do understand he has a very heavy burden on his shoulders and I do sympathize with his skinny ass, I do care for him and I do appreciate it when he shows signs of maturity, but then he screws up and nobody questions him, did it ever occur to him to stop and think?, to stop and tell Morgana that she's not alone and that she doesn't have to go to the fringier elements to find kindred spirits? She would have had no need to go to the Druids in the first place if he'd fessed up about himself, she might have had a better understanding Mordred's power if she'd known it wasn't some especial connection between the two of them, she might have been able to harness her abilities and grow more comfortable with them if she'd known what it was like for Merlin as well. As it is, she has no perspective on anything and all she can do is decide based on the limited information she's presented with. The operative word being presented, because, again (and I take this as a sign of weakness on both the character herself and the people around her in a position to help), she's manipulated into making the decisions she's made.
What Merlin's done is just as bad as what Uther's done. I only hope he realizes it and repents.
Maybe I need to re-watch stuff, because I know for a fact that he too has been misled and used and manipulated, but I'm still so pissed because if he had tried to help Morgana, to be her friend, to TELL HER HE TOO IS MAGIC, then maybe so much would have been avoided. So much.
What I like about this is the complexity it brings to the story, for all the stupid talk about destiny and prophesies and premonitions, it all comes down to choices, Morgana's, Merlin's, everybody's really. Morgana chose to let herself be guided by fear so many times, Merlin let himself be guided by the dragon and Gaius, and his own stupidity on some memorable occasions, so it's everyone's fault if we come down to it. I appreciate that. Notice I'm not angry at the writers, I'm angry at the characters themselves. The writers, though, better bring a stronger Morgana next time she's around, maybe if she gets a bit more self-empowered she'll be able to gain a better judgment on things, as long as she remembers she cares for Arthur (and Gwen) maybe she'll spare Merlin a bit. Though he does deserve her anger, HE DID POISON HER after all.
Anyway, this whole thing is kind of knee-jerk reaction as I just saw the episode, and I still believe in Morgana's core of goodness. She's scared and lonely and these are the options she's given. I think that, as long as no major character changes take place, she will still be someone I care about because I can relate with and understand what's happened to her, hopefully, if she does go all out evil, she'll be so because she's fighting for a cause, because she's trying to spare her kind (the magic kind) the betrayal and isolation she's been through, maybe she'll look for revenge against Merlin and Uther, and not because suddenly she's realized she's evil to her toe nails and loves laughing ominously. I hope she comes around and strikes a deal with Arthur when he's king, like, he'd be just about the magic community's crimes (because there are some criminals among them) and not continue Uther's policies, and she won't grind his father and manservant into dust. Or something. They'd still send each other snarky birthday cards and she'll send over flowers and celtic jewelry for Gwen when it's her birthday and wedding day, Gwen will remind Arthur of the bond he's shared with Morgana and he'll listen to her and who's gonna write me this fic????????
Go on, please tell me I'm missing things and she's always been this bad person who's only possible choice was to go dark side because the evil in her cold heart would guide her down that road. Please.
On the other hand, I did like the little touch of Arthur carrying Gwen to the bed, my fangirl little heart skipped around a bit with that. I'll take comfort in Arthur's continued awesomeness, and the promise of the great man/king that lurks not-so-deep down under the prattish behavior. He's only a prat to Merlin anyway. And unlike Merlin, Arthur learns from his mistakes, maybe it's because he has Gwen and not Gaius.
I kind of don't like Gaius very much. You may have noticed. He comforts Merlin, and I'm grateful for that, but he also thinks himself with rights to decisions that aren't really his, he doesn't tell Morgana about her visions being true, in fact he tells her they're more or less a condition of illness, he condones Uther's ban of magic even though he knows it to be unfair and cowardish, my relationship with this man is severely strained.
Anyway. Fair warning be given that I may come back and edit this post after a cool-headed re-watching of the episode. No telling when that'll be. Also, I'm tagging this show the four horsemen because, honestly, these four will be the end of me. And next week I better get a serious dose of Gwen, I missed her so hard here!
And I'm still studying, despite all the evidence to the contrary ::shifty eyes::
