So, I've turning this over in my head the entire day because I wanted to give you a coherent enough answer, something solid. And then I realized, impossible task, I'm too emotionally involved at the moment, and it feels pretty raw still, not even 24 hours after the fact.

When I was younger I couldn't really understand why would anybody want to make a president out of a man who'd staged a semi-successful coup, who'd been in prison and only got out because he was pardoned, his sentence wasn't even fully served. After he won I got a taste of the reason, social dissatisfaction. The idea that those who were not living in the poorest of conditions were not real citizens of the country, and that those who were indeed in emergency situation had no chance of ever crawling out of it. Chavez came on promoting this ideal of egalitarianism and I admit, for a little while I was sold, but his equality was not such in terms of resources and opportunities as much as it was some twisted Robin Hood crusade, steal from the rich and make the poor believe you're giving to them.

Realistically, his government has done nothing to advance the country, quite the opposite, it has taken it back to more primitive stages, only difference is that back then, there were no computers. Infrastructure programs, education, public health, all of those things he advertises to have achieved are not really his accomplishments, in the best of cases, they've been renamed and possibly re-painted to sport the revolution's red. In terms of education he's implemented this "Missions" where he supposedly gives the chance to people who otherwise wouldn't have had it to become professionals, to finish elementary/middle education, but can you honestly tell me it is possible to finish twelve years worth of schooling in under 26 months? Can you become a physician in two years? Can you become a lawyer and not know jack about Roman Laws? He seems to think it is, you can, and so the people benefiting from this think so as well.

What bothers me so much about this man is how soul-less he comes across. It is possible that at some point he had legitimately good intentions that were later on corrupted by too much power, it is entirely too possible that he's been this self-complacent the whole time, and only hiked himself up to these heights in the belief that he deserves it. He's bleeding the country's resources to fund his eccentricities, he's using taxpayers money to campaign for himself and his adoring followers, he's soiling the history of the nation with interpretations that, to the best style of 1984, conveniently change to adapt themselves to whatever the moment calls for.
